The artistic CEO, K. C. Chang, has incorporated modern decors of sophisticated sculptures and few personal drawings hanging on the wall by famous artists. Hence, one can sense the humanity is blended nicely with technology in this firm.

This is the 10th year since the inception MIPRO, a manufacturer specializes in condenser microphones, wireless microphones, and wireless amplifiers. It is marketed worldwide via a a network of +70 distributors. It is being nominated again for "Outstanding Technical Achievement" by the Annual TEC Awards.

Mr. Chang discussed about his company and shared some views regarding MIPRO's strategies and goals. See below.

Journalist: Why did you choose to be involved in wireless microphone industry after graduating from Art major of National Taiwan University for Teachers?

CEO: As a kid growing up I was highly involved in my Christian church and its activities. I was especially fond of church music and arts. However, never realized that someday I would be majoring in Arts. As a junior in senior high school, I discovered I had immense interests in mechanics and engineering. Usually after completion my home work, I would spend all my free time in taking radios apart to study the electronics and obtain a better understanding about transmission and reception. Due to financial difficulties at home, I therefore accepted a free Arts scholarship to study at National Taiwan University for Teachers. Apart from studying arts, I also have selected courses related to radio, electronics and wireless. That was the lading foundation I had in college which lead to my current business.

Journalist: What are your present and long-term goals?

CEO: This year is the 3rd expansion for company since establishment. We anticipate it will double current factory size and triple our production capacity. We aim to complete the new factory by 2nd quarter 2006 in order to accommodate the sales demand and supply. In the near future, we will participate in two major international pro audio shows in USA and Germany to unveil the next generation of new wireless products which we have been developing for the past eight years plus obtaining various key patents to solidify our status in the wireless microphone industry. For long-term goals...as many of Taiwanese have a preference for imported brands when it comes to selecting high-end pro audio products, we have effectively in overcoming such obstacles with education and A/B tests. We are developing digital wireless systems to meet critical applications that cannot be met satisfactorily by the traditional analog wireless systems.

Journalist: What is the difference between Digital Wireless Microphone and Analog Wireless Microphone?

CEO: Digital system concerts the analogue signals in the microphone transmitter into digital DSP signals for transmission, and then back to analogue signals again at the output of the receiver. What this does is allow the user to enjoy all the benefits of a pure, natural sound at the input and output, while enjoying the benefits of a digital transmission systems that sound extremely transparent and clarity just almost as good as cabled microphones.

Journalist: What are your hobbies?

CEO: I have been involved in microphone research for over 40 years. This is my life long passion and my expertise. In addition, I love driving to natural environment areas and I do enjoy shopping at my leisure time. To absorb knowledge and enrich myself, I visit bookstores once a week to read up on latest trends on various fields like architecture, interior design, 3C products, and traveling.

Journalist: What is your managing philosophy?

CEO: I prefer "working is life" and "life is working" philosophy. I enjoy my work immensely and regard it as part of my daily life. Therefore I make a lot of effort to create the "family" environment and harmony in the MIPRO workplace hoping my staff will feel the workplace as the second home. I believe a comfortable workplace would encourage and motivate employees to achieve better working efficiency. "To do better than others" is my expectation and my motto. Therefore I frequently motivate and remind my staff as such. For a business to sustain long-term basis, it needs to innovate, and have better featured products than competitors. In addition, to adapt quickly to the ever fast changes in the business world.
