MIPRO Saves Lives
Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1966
by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in the impoverished east coast of
Taiwan. The Foundation has been contributing to social and
community services, medical care, education and humanitarianism
in Taiwan for nearly 40 years.
As a volunteer-based organization, Tzu Chi's missions focus on
giving aid and inspiring love and humanity amongst its
volunteers and those to whom they provide assistance. Since its
founding, it has been committed to charity, medicine, education,
environmental protection, as well as the promotion of humanistic
values and community volunteerism.
Because Indonesia sits on the edges of the Pacific, Eurasian,
and Australian tectonic plates, it is subject to dangerous
volcanoes and frequent earthquakes. The two latest unfortunate
events were the devastating tsunamis killing nearly 200,000
people, mostly in province of Aceh and 2006 Java earthquakes
that had over 5,000 casualties,135,000 houses damaged and an
estimated 1.5 million left homeless.
Tsu Chi is no stranger to international disaster relief. Both
times hundreds of volunteers were sent for assistance. One of
the arduous tasks following the earthquakes was to find and
rescue survivors who were buried and trapped under tons of
rubble.
MIPRO's lightweight wireless portable PA system,
MA-101,
was an effective tool that was used to help locate buried
earthquake victims. As power and electricity were out, 45
battery-powered MA-101s were used extensively by search and
rescues workers to comb areas with loud, clear amplified sound
for locating survivors. The rescuers used carry over a shoulder
straps with wireless handheld microphones.
Twenty more powerful
MA-707 wireless portable PA
systems were also used for another needing application: crowd
control for relief aid such as food, water, supplies and medical
treatment during the crisis.
Thanks to its unique portability and amplified sound, hundreds
of earthquake and tsunami survivors were located and later,
rescued.
Eugene Chen, VP of international sales was highly pleased and
touched to know our wireless portable PA systems were in
desperate needs and able to assist and help in saving human
lives during these disastrous events.
